Spanish songs Translated to English: Mi Tierra Veracruzana by Natalia Lafourcade

Songs are a great way to practice Spanish, and today we’ll review a beautiful song by Natalia Lafourcade titled: “Mi Tierra Veracruzana” This is such an innocent and joyful song, of someone who misses the scents and rhythms from her hometown.

Natalia grew up in Veracruz and this is a love letter bathed in melancholy and appreciation for her home state.

You can listen to the song and read the lyrics in this video, and you’ll find the lyrics in English and Spanish in the next section:

Although I’ve never been to Veracruz, I’ve met people from that that region and the song manages to encapsulate the vibe, slang and joy of the region.

She even sings using a distinctive coastal accent from Veracruz as a tribute to show her appreciation in this lovely song that could’ve been titled “Ode to my Hometown.”

The song’s got a powerful Veracruz vibe including marimbas and jaranas (small guitars with a distinctive sound.) Excellent song with so much love for her home state!!
