It is important to mention that, although there are two ways of saying I love you in Spanish (te quiero and te amo), they may be used in different contexts.

For example,

In Mexico and in most of Latin America saying “te quiero” means I love you,

“Te quiero” may be used with a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife; and it may also be used to express fraternal love for a brother, sister, cousin or a friend.

So, in English there is only one verb to say I love you (to love), but in Spanish we have 2 (querer and amar).

Although “te quiero” can be used to express love for a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife as well as friends and family,

“Te amo” may only be used to express romantic feelings. For example, for a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife. Generally, you wouldn’t use “Te amo” with a brother, a sister, or friends (however, there are exceptions and some people may use them that way as well, occasionally to express intense fraternal love).

“Te amo” is more of a romantic nature, and “te quiero” (although it means I love you) may be used in both romantic and fraternal contexts ( fraternal, as in a context of family or friends).
